The brochure "Shaping the future in Germany and Europe: The impact of the European Social Fund (Plus) on the ground" presents representative ESF (Plus) programmes and ESF (Plus) projects of the Federal Government and the 16 Länder. These so-called "ESF (Plus) lighthouses" from the current and previous funding period 2014-2020 are exemplary of the diversity of the ESF (Plus), its innovative character and the effectiveness of the ESF at local level.
In the funding period from 2014-2020 alone, around 3.5 million people across Germany benefited from ESF measures. Hundreds of thousands of people are participating in ESF Plus projects in the current funding period, and many more will join them by the end of 2027, continuing their education through the free ESF (Plus) measures, finding their way into work or training. The aim is for them to make progress in their professional, personal and social lives.
Even more impressive than these figures are the stories, people and successes that are presented as examples in this brochure. From reintegration into society and the world of work, to further education and training, to combating poverty and helping small and medium-sized companies find skilled workers - this brochure shows how the ESF (Plus) can be used in a needs-oriented, diverse and successful way. The selected programmes and projects illustrate how the ESF (Plus) provides opportunities for people in Germany to lead self-determined and successful (professional) lives and how it is the embodiment of the European social idea at local level.
When people ask: "What does the EU really do for me?" these ESF (Plus) case studies can provide good answers. This is not just thanks to clever measures or good management. It is first and foremost thanks to the local people who are committed to the ESF (Plus) and fill it with life. In this brochure we showcase their work - and their successes.
