Climate-based-training – Sustainability and climate action at work

Internship for career orientation with a focus on climate

Young people aged 14 to 29 can complete an internship related to climate protection in a training company for a period of 3-10 weeks. In principle, the internship can take place in any profession, as long as the interns are taught skills on how to practice the profession in an ecologically sustainable way. The skills transfer is based on the standard job profile position on environmental protection and sustainability. A handout will be developed and made available for this purpose, which serves as an orientation. The search for an internship is to be organized via existing matching platforms on which young people search for a suitable internship and are accepted into the companies that offer appropriate internships.

The interns are paid via the ESF Plus programme and amount to 138 euros per week. It is only paid out if the skills have been taught (by means of proof, e.g. on the internship certificate).

In order to support and advise the internship providers and the interns, an advisory structure (advice centers) is to be promoted through grants. These are managed by a central coordination office, which is also funded. The advisory offices advise the target groups on the internships, support them in finding internships or interns, check the climate protection certificate in the internship certificate and pay the interns the remuneration. The coordination office also organizes public relations work for the programme.
